Hair Transplants, I need help please!

Hello Ladies and Gents, I am 27 years old, about to hit 28 in a month time. I have been losing my hair since 2001 or so when I was still in my very early 20's unfortunately. You can imagine the stress and insecurity I had to go through before I decided that it shouldn't bother me and stopped wearing caps and wooly hats whenever i had to go out. Since around 2005 I have accepted my fate when it came to my hair and although it still bothers me sometimes it has not been a bad journey in a sense of my confidence with girls etc... if anything I have had more girlfriends since my hair loss than when i had hair.

Anyways enough talk about that. I have been thinking about this a lot recently and I would love to know more about Hair Transplant. I am usually a chicken when it comes to surgery and I have avoided them since i was born but I think I can brave it a bit and go for it. Truth is I am sick and bored of having to shave my head every 2 days so my baldness won't look too bad. I would love to just leave my hair grow at least for a week. I only start feeling insecure and old when i leave it for a week without shaving because my hair and beard grows super fast, which sucks.

I have not yet gone totally bald but the bald pattern and areas are very obvious. The worst hit area are my front and now the crown is getting slightly worse. I still have hair on the front and top but it's very very thin and can hardly be seen. So i have no idea how much hair i need to be transplanted.

My questions in regards to that is, how much am I looking at roughly when it comes to the price?

I actually like my hair short, maybe wouldn't shave it to 1 again but i like the shaved look so would it be possible to still shave my hair to lets say 2/3 without the scar being noticeable from the back of my head?

Does the surgery hurt? Like i said I am a chicken when it comes to seeing people being operated on on TV and can only imagine how scared I'll be in person.

I work for the police and obviously would be wearing a cap most of the time as i work full time. Would that effect the new hairs growing and how many days off would i need for the whole transplant recovery and to look normal as obviously it would be embarrassing for me personally to walk around with scars in the office or in public.

and Last question. Like i said my hair from the side and back grow very fast and I usually need to shave it at least every 3 or 4 days. Would i be able to do that after the surgery or is it too risky? Because I would find it hard not to shave at all untill the new hair is up and running. I heard that takes around 5 months or so. If I don't shave the sides and back that long I will definitely look quite scary for my liking and too bald, which will effect my confidence obviously!

Any help I'd really appreciate from you guys!

Oh and are there good hair transplants here or is it worth saving for surgery abroad for better results?

I don't know if this would mean anything but a while back i used to take Proscar, did it for around 2 or 3 years than stopped. I probably shouldn't have but I lost contact with the doctor who used to prescribe me them and never looked for a new one plus had no job at that time and couldn't afford it and all the other products.
