Hair loss as a 24yr old female-advice please!

Postby sashad2004 » Mon Dec 20, 2010 5:00 pm

Hi everyone,

I am a 24 year old female and I am losing my hair so am after any advice you can give me on hiding or treating it. I went to my gp who said it was male pattern baldness-he said male not female so I think thats to do with the pattern of hair loss-and that he cant offer me any help on the nhs-nor idd he give me any options of what I could do myself!!

I think the only thing worse for me at the moment than being a girl of my age going bald is feeling like I am the only one! I am very lucky to have a wonderful supportive husband but my confidence has been knocked for six and I feel really quite insecure now.

I first noticed in June when I was trying hats for a wedding and caught sight of it and it has got harder to hide it since. Ive just had my long hair cut into a bob thinking that if it there was less weight in it, then maybe it would be less obvious but nope!

This is getting me down a bit now so any advice or support you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

Hi,
My mum was going through the exact same thing, clumps of hair were falling out and her hair was so thin on top! Our GP diagnosed her with Androgenic Alopecia and told her about creams, foams, tablets etc that may possibly halt the hair loss process and even reverse it, but there was no guarantee that anything would work so the doctor also recommended wigs and hair pieces which would disguise the baldness.
She has called up many hair loss clinics and spoken to a few trichologists, and found herself visiting a hairloss center in London called Great 4 Hair, where they told her the best option for her was their hair volumizer, which was applied to the top of her head where she was lacking in hair. It was attached by some micro beads which didnt tug or damage her remaining hair, and what was left of her hair was pulled up through the silicone mesh through the top of the volumizer to blend in it with the volumizers hair to give it the natural look she has now. The volumizer was cut and styled there in their salon once it was applied, so it completely looked 100% natural! My mum was absolutely ecstatic, and says even now that the volumizer doesn't feel like it's there, and that it doesn't feel heavy or thick. The people that knew about the condition were amazed and the people that didn't know about the condition or the volumizer haven't noticed, so I'd definitely 100% over recommend calling Great 4 Hair, they're in London and their consultations are free so you really have nothing to lose, they're totally so easy to talk to and understand to a tee what you are wanting to achieve. They also specialise in wigs and extensions, so good luck!!! All the best xxx
